REMAC Basic exams are open to NYS DOH paramedics for initial REMAC certification, paramedics who do not meet the REMAC CME renewal requirements, or paramedics whose REMAC certifications is expired more than 30 days. The exam consists of a 120-multiple-choice questions, based on the NYC REMAC Protocols.  The exam has questions on General Operating Procedures, Treatment Protocols, Appendices and also Scenario-based questions.  The exam may also include additional noncredit pilot questions. The test is limited to 3 hours and has a passing grade of 80%. Seating is limited. The exam fee is $135 USD Non-refundable.

The exam is hosted once a month and seating is limited. When all seats are filled, registration will be closed. You will have to wait for next month’s registration to open. This information is posted on the NYC REMSCO LMS in the Course Catalog folder and LMS Event Date Calendar. To find out information about Basic Exam Dates and registration you must go to the REMSCO LMS site. Please take note of the registration deadline for your desired exam. Applications must be submitted prior to the deadline in order to be accepted into the exam. Walk-Ins are strictly PROHIBITED.

To take the exam, candidates must have all of the following documentation:

• Photo identification
• Proof of current New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) paramedic certification or on-site scoring results
• Proof of graduation within the last twelve (12) months from a Paramedic Basic Program (graduation certificate or letter from the Program Director).

Registration for the NYC REMAC Basic Exam is done through the NYC REMSCO Learning Management System (LMS). https://nycremsco.org/lms/

1. Login or Register for the NYC REMSCO LMS.
2. Go to the Exam Calendar to view upcoming REMAC Exam sessions.
3. Click on the session you wish to register for.
4. Complete the REMAC Exam Registration Questionnaire
5. Pay the $135 Exam Fee (If Applicable)
6. Finalize registration by clicking “Register”
   • You should receive an email notification confirming your registration. The event will also appear on your Learner Dashboard.

Under REMAC Advisory 2025-05, re-credentialing Paramedics must maintain 84 hours of REMAC CME, as detailed in the Certification & Credentialing Administrative Manual. The manual is provided at the top of this page and in your NYC REMSCO Learning Management System (LMS) Account Resources Folder. REMAC re-credentialing is managed through the LMS and all REMAC Paramedic Providers should have access to the NYC REMSCO LMS.

Important Note: REMAC Paramedic providers who currently have an active 3-year renewal cycle will complete their three-year cycle CME requirement as scheduled. REMAC CME Requirement total of 72 hours: (36 hours Category-A and 36 hours of Category-B).

Steps to Renew Your NYC REMAC Credentials:

1. Register for the NYC REMSCO LMS or login if you already have an account. A Re-credentialing tutorial is available on the LMS to navigate the process.
2. Ensure that you indicate your Primary Agency Affiliation during the registration process.
3. Complete all steps as outlined in the NYC REMAC Re-Credentialing Learning Pathway on the LMS. If you do not see this pathway on your Dashboard, contact your Primary Agency Training Officer.

Re-credentialing Requirements:

1. Provide proof of current active NYS DOH Paramedic certification.
2. Complete all NYC REMAC Protocols Updates. This is available on the NYC REMSCO LMS portal and providers will receive a certificate(s) on successful completion.
3. Submit required Continued Medical Education (CME) hours into the LMS-or verify your hours are uploaded by your Agency.
   • CME Hourly requirement Category A: Physician Directed Call Review (48 Hours Minimum)
     • With a minimum of thirty (30) synchronous hours and a maximum of eighteen (18) asynchronous hours.
   • REMAC CME Credit Hourly requirement Category B: Alternative Source (36 Hours Minimum)
     • With a minimum of eighteen (18) synchronous hours and a maximum of eighteen (18) asynchronous hours.

4. Submit your Medical Director Verification Letter on the LMS. Your Agency Training Coordinator must approve your letter. If you do not have a Medical Director or are not affiliated with any agency, but have completed all required REMAC CME credits, please notify our REMAC Liaison via email several months prior to the expiration of your current credential. This advance notice will allow our Medical Director time to review your CME transcript and certificates to prepare the required verification letter.
5. Register for REMAC Re-Credentialing Request. This submits a request to the REMAC Liaison to approve renewal of your NYC REMAC credentials.

Upon approval by REMAC Liaison Mr. Kevin Ward, you will receive an email containing a link to the credentialing form and instructions for payment of the non-refundable $35.00 credentialing certification fee, which covers a four-year certification period. You will then receive your REMAC Paramedic credentialing card by mail and a scanned copy of your certificate via email from the REMAC Credentialing Coordinator-Ms. Dinna Tan-Khury.

Your course sponsor will coordinate with the REMAC Liaison on the appropriate exam schedule date at the course site and assist with registration. Candidate must complete the NY State Original Paramedic Certification Examination Application at least 10 business days prior to the REMAC Basic exam.

In order to become credentialed as a NYC REMAC Paramedic, you must have a completed and approved NYS DOH Bureau of EMS Reciprocity application before registering to take the NYC REMAC Basic Paramedic Examination. If you have a lapsed/expired NYC REMAC Credential or you did not meet the required REMAC CME Credits, you must take the NYC REMAC Basic Exam to reinstate your active status credential.

CME hours are not limited to those obtainable via the REMSCO LMS portal or through Regional Updates. If you are missing REMAC CME Credits and there is no more offered within your in-house agency employment, there are other NYC EMS Agencies that offer CME sessions. Information about these sessions is available on the NYC REMSCO LMS site under the Course Catalog folder and Event Date calendar, which are updated periodically.

There are two NYC REMAC CME Renewal Registration Reviews each month (unless otherwise specified) and they are posted in the NYC REMSCO LMS Course Catalog and Event Date folder icon by the REMAC Liaison. Do not wait until the last minute or the day of the review to register. The registration will be closed on the day of.

You are allowed to register your re-credentialing CME Base Renewal Review request at least 90 days prior to your current card expiration date with proof of REMAC CME documents. If you register too early your CME base review will be declined. You must self-register your name in the NYC REMAC CME Base Renewal Review Roster.

Synchronous involves real-time instruction with providers and doctors/instructors interacting live. Asynchronous are pre-recorded or independent courses/studies.
